Car Accidents are fun! (part 1 of 3)

So, I haven't posted a blog entry for quite some time now. Why? A lot of reasons. Let's start with the first one - I was involved in a car accident! Funny thing really - when I went out that night I had no idea the adventures that I was going to have. The adventure involving the Police, Ambulance, Fire Brigade, a prison cell a rather loud, drunken fellow, and an umbrella.

All I have to say is, the Victorian (or at least Frankston) Police department have lost ALL respect from me, THAT'S for sure.

Follow up:

It all started with a two friends birthdays, a 21st (we'll call her Rebecca as it get's confusing not using names) and a 23rd (and we'll call him Bruce just to annoy him). I'm not one for nightclubs but when you've got TWO friends both having birthdays on the same day, you kinda have to make a sacrifice. I couldn't even fake it as my house mate was one of them.

So we went to a lovely (yeah sure) little pub in a Melbourne suburb called Frankston. It's regarded a "bit of a hole" by some but I've actually lived in the area once upon a time and found it to be not really any worse than anywhere else.

We had a rather uneventful night (except for the 2 rather lovely young ladies I happened to meet (well, chase ... pursue). The night finally came to a close (or so I thought) at about 4am on the Sunday morning.

We (and when I say "we" I mean everyone involved except me) decided to go back to Rebecca's house so we all went together (all 6 of us) in one car. It was Bruce's car so he was driving (even though he'd had a few drinks) and I was the lucky one in the passenger seat.

Anyway, short story long, after driving along for a time we took a corner a little too fast and ended up almost going off a railway bridge!

Irronically it was the rather sturdy, thick metal bridge barrier that both caused me to almost fly through the windscreen, and stopped the car from plummeting off the bridge to our grizzly death.

The car impacted at a nice speed, perhaps 60 km/h (~37 m/h) and quickly came to a stop. The fellow behind me was unlucky enough to not be wearing his seatbelt and rather selfishly slammed into the back of my chair, causing me to head butt said windscreen with some force. He did get his own however as the remaining forces not absorbed by my chair, assisted him in his attempt to insert himself into the roof of the car.

I tried to exit the vehicle but found that it would be a rather large fall if I got out my side so decided to climb over to the drivers side (carefully avoiding getting my feet on the seats of course).

After confirming that all parties were safe (or at least out of the car and conscious) I started to think about Bruce's predicament. He'd been driving under the influence of alcohol, and the car was overloaded. He was exhibiting obvious remorse, immediately requesting us to call the Police and ambulance and stating that he should be "thrown in prison" for his stupidity.

I obviously didn't harbor any resentment toward him as I had made the choice to be in the car with him, and was now concerned as to what may happen to him.
